The Nomad Residence, Permit Malta (NRPM) program
The Nomad Residence, Permit Malta (NRPM) program allows individuals to establish residence in Malta temporarily while maintaining the flexibility to travel and work remotely. The program is open to non-EU citizens enabling them to stay in Malta for up to one year, with the possibility of renewing the permit. To qualify for the NRPM, individuals must prove that they have a stable income and can support themselves financially while in Malta. Proof of an existing employment contract or that of running own business from Malta. They must also provide proof of health insurance and pass a background check.
The NRPM allows the permit holder to travel within the Schengen area with a valid permit and no need to apply for a visa.

The Nomad Residence Permit is open to individuals from third countries who would typically (but not necessarily) require a Visa to travel to Malta.
The permit is issued for one year by the respective Authority, Residency Malta. It can be renewed upon application at the discretion of Residency Malta as long as the applicant still meets the set eligibility criteria.
Who is Eligible for this Program
Applicants must prove they can work remotely using telecoms. Applicants must also be third-country nationals.
In addition, applicants must prove they fall under any one of the following three categories:
- Work for an employer registered in a foreign country and have a contract of work;
- Conduct business activities for a company registered in a foreign country and of which the applicant is a partner/shareholder; or
- Offer freelance or consulting services to clients whose permanent establishments are in a foreign country and with whom the applicant has contracts.
Persons contracted by a foreign company and giving services to the companyā€™s Maltese subsidiary are not eligible for the Nomad Residence Permit.
Moreover, an applicant must reach a gross monthly income of EUR 2,700. Additional eligible family members will have thresholds as stipulated in the Agency Policy.
